UPDATE 2021:

I am excited to update everyone on the status of the library! After about a year of no response from the county and the Covid-19 Pandemic, we decided to cancel our initial plan of installing the library in the North Charlotte location.

I (doesn’t matter who I am, but I am an individual, not the original group from 8th grade) brought the library home, and as an expansion upon a previous project, based my 10th grade IB personal project around it. I restored the library (had been damaged by the weather due to some poor construction techniques, all to blame on me) and got it installed at the end of my street. The library is fully functional!

Hello everyone!

We are currently 8th graders at Piedmont IB Middle School and we made a little free library as part of our community service project. However, we wanted to spice it up a little bit. We have included a camera in the library so that people can go online to see what books are in stock first. It was all done using simple and relatively cheap electronics, and we hope that others will follow us on the journey of creating the next generation of Little Free Libraries! This project just goes to show how if you are determined enough, you can accomplish something pretty cool.

The purpose of this website is to help share our story, and of course, to see what books are in stock at the locations. Currently, we have only one location figured out, but if we can raise enough money, we may consider building another one of these innovative libraries or possibly retrofit another. If you would like to, consider donating to this project in the donate page!

Our story was even featured on Spectrum Local news! This was an amazing opportunity to show what we had accomplished and to get our word out. If you would like to watch it, click here.
